Catherine Deneuve is captured as Carol Ledoux lying curled across the apartment floor in this remarkable behind-the-scenes image from REPULSION (1965), with the filmmaking equipment dramatically visible in the foreground. Her head rests upon one arm beside the telephone while the polished parquet floor, open doorway and sparse domestic surroundings emphasize how isolated and physically small Carol appears within the room. The exposed camera apparatus makes the photograph especially revealing, preserving both Deneuve’s performance and the machinery creating Polanski’s psychological world.

Directed by Roman Polanski and written with Gérard Brach, REPULSION stars Deneuve as Carol Ledoux, whose increasing isolation inside a London apartment develops into a disturbing collapse of perception. The apartment itself becomes essential to the film’s terror, as ordinary rooms, sounds and objects—including the telephone—take on an increasingly oppressive psychological presence. Here, the visible production equipment breaks that carefully constructed illusion and offers an unusual view of the filmmaking process just beyond Carol’s enclosed world.

Carefully restored from original studio-issued archival material and professionally lab-developed, this museum-quality photograph is presented uncropped, preserving the complete image area contained in the archival material. The visible camera equipment, telephone, expansive parquet floor and Deneuve’s vulnerable posture create a distinctive collectible for Catherine Deneuve, REPULSION, Roman Polanski and behind-the-scenes psychological-horror collectors.

This is a 310g natural white mould made natural line paper with 100% rag content making it highly archival. It has a slight coarse texture which gives photos and artwork an elegant look. These fine art paper prints (also known as Giclee) are ordered by galleries, individual artists and photographers. The papers and inks are not only archival but use some of the most accurate print technology for full color prints.

The window will be 1/8″ smaller than the print dimensions.
