CHRISTOPHER LEE – HORROR OF DRACULA (1958) Count Dracula with Stone Eagle Publicity Photo
Limited Edition Photograph (learn more)
In stock
Christopher Lee stands as Count Dracula in a striking black-and-white publicity photograph for HORROR OF DRACULA (1958), photographed from a severe low angle beside one of the production’s monumental stone-eagle ornaments. Wrapped almost entirely in his dark cloak and framed against pale masonry and sky, Lee projects controlled aristocratic menace rather than physical attack. The ascending stonework, low viewpoint and eagle motif give this photograph a highly distinctive architectural identity among Hammer’s Dracula publicity imagery.
Directed by Terence Fisher for Hammer Film Productions, Dracula was released in Britain in 1958 and titled Horror of Dracula for the American market. The eagle has particular production significance: the film’s opening title sequence begins on a large stone eagle at Castle Dracula, while Bernard Robinson’s Castle Dracula exterior was constructed on the backlot at Bray Studios. The film marked Christopher Lee’s first appearance as Hammer’s Count Dracula.
Carefully restored from archival photographic materials and professionally lab-developed, this museum-quality photograph is presented uncropped, preserving the complete image area contained in the original studio-issued archival material. Lee’s cloaked figure, the dramatic low-angle composition and the distinctive stone-eagle architecture give this image a clearly differentiated place within a Hammer Dracula collection.
