Olinka Berova in The Vengeance of She is captured in a wonderfully expressive bathing image from the 1968 Hammer production, turning suddenly with wide eyes and parted lips as she looks beyond the frame. Surrounded by luminous blue water and floating yellow and white flowers, Berova’s spontaneous reaction transforms the scene into an unusually animated example of Hammer glamour and fantasy photography.

Olinka Berova stars as Carol, a young woman mysteriously drawn toward the lost city of Kuma and toward a destiny connected to the legendary queen Ayesha.
Directed by Cliff Owen, the film stars Olinka Berova alongside John Richardson, Edward Judd, Colin Blakely and André Morell. Its combination of supernatural mystery, exotic fantasy, adventure and elaborate color imagery gave the production a distinctive place within Hammer’s broader output beyond its better-known Gothic horror films.
Berova’s appearance became central to the film’s visual identity. Her striking blonde beauty, poised screen presence and elegant styling were emphasized throughout the production’s publicity imagery. In this photograph, however, the usual composure is interrupted by a sudden expression of surprise, making the image particularly memorable within the larger series.
