Peter Cushing and Sandor Elès are captured working over Kiwi Kingston’s restrained Monster in this spectacular laboratory image from THE EVIL OF FRANKENSTEIN (1964). Cushing’s Baron Frankenstein and Elès’s Hans lean inward from opposite sides while a formidable series of curved, rib-like metal restraints encloses the Monster along the length of the apparatus. The machinery, chains and stone laboratory surroundings turn the entire frame into a showcase of Hammer’s forbidden science.
Directed by Freddie Francis, THE EVIL OF FRANKENSTEIN marked Peter Cushing’s third appearance as Baron Frankenstein for Hammer Films, with Sandor Elès as Hans and Kiwi Kingston as the Monster. The film gave Frankenstein’s laboratory and creature a distinctive visual identity, while this unusually detailed composition allows the apparatus itself to share the spotlight with the performers—revealing the practical machinery, physical restraints and Gothic environment surrounding the Baron’s experiments.
Carefully restored from original studio-issued archival material and professionally lab-developed, this museum-quality photograph is presented uncropped, preserving the complete image area contained in the archival material. The sweeping metal restraints, elaborate laboratory equipment and concentrated pairing of Cushing and Elès over Kingston’s Monster create a distinctive collectible for Peter Cushing, THE EVIL OF FRANKENSTEIN, Hammer’s Frankenstein series and classic British horror collectors.
