Robert Hossein and Marie-France Pisier are captured in this haunting black-and-white scene from LE VAMPIRE DE DÜSSELDORF (1965), with Peter Kürten crouched over Anna on the nighttime pavement. Photographed from an extraordinary elevated viewpoint, the two figures occupy only a small portion of the frame while immense areas of darkness and sharply divided pools of light surround them. Pisier’s abandoned shoe beside her body becomes a particularly disturbing visual detail within the stark composition.
Directed by Robert Hossein, who also portrays Peter Kürten, LE VAMPIRE DE DÜSSELDORF—also released as THE VAMPIRE OF DÜSSELDORF—features Marie-France Pisier as Anna, the cabaret singer whose relationship with Kürten draws her into his increasingly dangerous world. The detached overhead perspective, deep shadows and severe geometric lighting transform the violent encounter into an exceptionally powerful example of the film’s psychological crime-noir imagery.
Carefully restored from original studio-issued archival material and professionally lab-developed, this museum-quality photograph is presented uncropped, preserving the complete image area contained in the archival material. The elevated composition, vast negative space, isolated figures and Anna’s discarded shoe remain fully preserved—a distinctive collectible for admirers of Robert Hossein, Marie-France Pisier, LE VAMPIRE DE DÜSSELDORF, European crime noir and psychologically charged 1960s cinema photography.
