ROBERT PICARDO – THE HOWLING (1981) Eddie Quist Werewolf Transformation Rare Rob Bottin Horror Photo
Limited Edition Photograph (learn more)

Robert Picardo is captured as Eddie Quist at one of the most disturbing intermediate stages of his werewolf transformation in THE HOWLING (1981), his face still recognizably human as predatory eyes and enormous fangs begin to take over. The extreme close-up makes every unnatural detail impossible to escape, while the cold blue-green illumination, altered eyes and stretched expression suspend Quist somewhere between man and beast. It is the transformation itself—not merely the finished monster—that becomes the horror.
Directed by Joe Dante, THE HOWLING stars Dee Wallace, Patrick Macnee, Dennis Dugan and Robert Picardo, with Rob Bottin’s groundbreaking practical transformation and creature effects central to the film’s enduring reputation. Bottin developed progressive stages that distorted Picardo’s recognizable facial characteristics into increasingly animalistic forms, allowing Quist’s metamorphosis to unfold physically before the camera rather than hiding the change between cuts.
Carefully restored from original studio-issued archival material and professionally lab-developed, this museum-quality photograph is presented uncropped, preserving the complete image area contained in the archival material. The luminous eyes, newly emerged fangs and extraordinary human-to-werewolf midpoint create a distinctive collectible for Robert Picardo, THE HOWLING, Rob Bottin and landmark 1980s practical-effects horror collectors.
