A remarkable behind-the-scenes image for the serious James Bond collector, revealing what it actually took to create the legendary Crab Key sequences in DR. NO (1962).

Sean Connery and Ursula Andress stand in the tropical water as the production crew and motion-picture camera occupy the foreground, completely exposing the filmmaking normally hidden from audiences. For a growing 007 archive, this is far more than another Connery-and-Andress photographit preserves the making of the very first James Bond film.

The photograph offers an extraordinary contrast with the polished adventure seen on screen. Connery appears in the water as James Bond while Andress, as Honey Ryder, wears the white bikini that became one of the most recognizable costumes associated with the Bond series.

But here, the filmmaking itself becomes part of the photograph.

A large motion-picture camera dominates the left side of the composition, positioned on a makeshift platform immediately beside the water. Production equipment, crew members and the practical working environment remain completely exposed as the sequence is being filmed.

That production detail is precisely what gives this image its collector significance. Instead of merely preserving another moment from DR. NO, the photograph allows the collector to stand metaphorically behind the camera and see the considerable work required to create the cinematic world of Crab Key.

The contrast is fascinating. On screen, Bond and Honey attempt to evade Dr. No’s forces while moving through the island environment. From this production perspective, we see the human and technical apparatus positioned only feet away from the actors.

Andress’s white bikini adds another important layer of Bond history. Her appearance as Honey Ryder became one of the defining visual images of DR. NO and early Bond cinema. Here, that familiar screen iconography appears within an entirely different context—not as a carefully composed glamour portrait, but amid the equipment and personnel responsible for photographing the film.

DR. NO is a 1962 spy adventure directed by Terence Young and starring Sean Connery as James Bond, Ursula Andress as Honey Ryder, Joseph Wiseman as Dr. Julius No and Jack Lord as Felix Leiter. Adapted from Ian Fleming’s novel, it was the first film in the James Bond motion-picture series produced by Harry Saltzman and Albert R. Broccoli.

The significance of that distinction makes production imagery from DR. NO especially fascinating to 007 collectors. Decades of Bond filmmaking followed, but photographs such as this document the production process at the very beginning of the cinematic phenomenon.

For the serious 007 collector, the combination is exceptional: Sean Connery, Ursula Andress, Honey Ryder’s white bikini, Crab Key, the camera crew and production equipment—all captured together while the inaugural Bond adventure was being created. It adds something a conventional DR. NO scene still simply cannot provide: access to the filmmaking itself.

Carefully restored and professionally printed from archival source material, this museum-quality photograph is a distinctive collectible for admirers of Sean Connery, Ursula Andress, DR. NO, Honey Ryder, James Bond 007 and the behind-the-scenes history of the Bond films.
