SEAN CONNERY as James Bond and URSULA ANDRESS as Honey Ryder are photographed during filming of a Crab Key water sequence for DR. NO (1962) in this revealing black-and-white behind-the-scenes image. A large motion-picture camera, wooden filming platform, cables and production crew dominate the foreground while the performers work in the tropical water beyond, exposing the practical filmmaking apparatus normally concealed outside the finished frame. The unusually wide production view gives collectors a compelling record of how the first James Bond adventure was physically photographed on location.

Directed by TERENCE YOUNG for EON Productions, DR. NO introduced Connery’s James Bond and Andress’s Honey Ryder in the first film of the official 007 series. Much of the fictional Crab Key material was created on location in Jamaica, with cinematographer TED MOORE photographing Bond, Honey and Quarrel amid beaches, waterfalls and tropical waterways before their capture by Dr. No’s forces. The visible camera setup makes this photograph particularly valuable as documentation of the Jamaican location unit at work rather than simply another image of the finished scene.

Carefully restored from archival photographic materials and professionally lab-developed, this museum-quality photograph is presented uncropped, preserving the complete image area contained in the original archival source. The combination of SEAN CONNERY, URSULA ANDRESS, Crab Key location filming, tropical water and prominently visible motion-picture equipment gives this image a distinctive identity for collectors of DR. NO, James Bond 007, early EON production history and classic behind-the-scenes cinema photography.
