URSULA ANDRESS – DR. NO (1962) Jamaica Boat Location Photo by BRADLEY SMITH

URSULA ANDRESS is photographed by BRADLEY SMITH on location in Jamaica during production of DR. NO (1962), standing barefoot atop a small open boat as she shades her eyes and looks across the water. Her light floral outfit, elevated pose, several men seated behind her, distant coastline and expansive Caribbean sky give Smith’s color photograph an exceptional sense of place. Rather than isolating Andress in a conventional studio portrait, the composition preserves her within the tropical Jamaican environment that became fundamental to the visual identity of the first James Bond film.
Directed by TERENCE YOUNG for EON Productions, DR. NO introduced Andress as Honey Ryder opposite SEAN CONNERY’s James Bond. American photographer BRADLEY SMITH is independently documented among the special-shoot photographers working on the film, and surviving Smith photographs of Andress are archivally identified as made during the DR. NO production in Jamaica. This image is therefore best understood as Jamaican location publicity photography, rather than being assigned to a specific finished-film scene without further exact-frame evidence.
Carefully restored from archival photographic materials and professionally lab-developed, this museum-quality photograph is presented uncropped, preserving the complete image area contained in the original archival source. The combination of URSULA ANDRESS, BRADLEY SMITH’s confirmed authorship, the Jamaican boat setting and expansive Caribbean landscape gives this photograph a particularly strong archival identity for collectors of DR. NO, James Bond 007, Ursula Andress and original 1960s location photography.
