A spectacular addition to a serious James Bond archive, capturing Ursula Andress during the Jamaican production of DR. NO (1962) in an image overflowing with the tropical atmosphere that helped define the very first 007 adventure.

Standing barefoot atop a small boat in her stylish silk outfit, Andress shields her eyes as she looks across the water, with local Jamaican fishermen seated behind her and the coastline stretching into the distance. Far removed from the familiar white-bikini imagery, this distinctive production photograph reveals another fascinating side of the woman who became one of the defining Bond Girls of the series.

The composition is exceptional. Andress dominates the foreground from her elevated position on the boat, one hand raised above her eyes as though surveying the water ahead. Her light silk outfit and bare feet complement the tropical setting, while the fishermen seated naturally behind her provide tremendous depth and local character.

And Jamaica matters.

DR. NO did more than introduce Sean Connery as James Bond. Its extensive Jamaican setting established the exotic international atmosphere that would become fundamental to the Bond series, transforming tropical waters, beaches and remote island landscapes into an integral part of 007’s cinematic identity.

This photograph captures that environment beautifully. Rather than isolating Andress against a neutral studio backdrop, the camera preserves the entire surrounding landscape—the boat, Jamaican fishermen, open water, distant shoreline and expansive Caribbean sky.

For the collector, those details transform the photograph from a conventional Ursula Andress glamour image into a richly atmospheric record associated with DR. NO’s Jamaican production. There is a remarkable sense of place here, connecting Andress directly with the people and landscape surrounding the film.

Her pose adds considerably to the photograph’s visual appeal. Standing high on the boat and looking purposefully into the distance, Andress resembles an adventurous seafarer surveying the Caribbean, her silk outfit providing an elegant contrast with the working boats and fishermen around her. It is glamorous without being a conventional glamour portrait.

Andress portrays Honey Ryder, whom Bond encounters on Crab Key while she is collecting seashells. Her famous emergence from the Caribbean wearing a white bikini became one of the defining visual moments of DR. NO and established Andress internationally.

But photographs such as this broaden a collector’s view of her DR. NO imagery. There is no carefully arranged white-bikini pose and no confrontation with Dr. No’s guards. Instead, we encounter Andress within the wider Jamaican environment associated with the production—a completely different visual chapter of her Bond history.

DR. NO is a 1962 spy adventure directed by Terence Young and starring Sean Connery as James Bond, Ursula Andress as Honey Ryder, Joseph Wiseman as Dr. Julius No and Jack Lord as Felix Leiter. Produced by Harry Saltzman and Albert R. Broccoli and adapted from Ian Fleming’s novel, it launched the James Bond motion-picture series.

Jamaica also occupies a special place in the broader history of James Bond. Ian Fleming maintained his Goldeneye home on the island and wrote the Bond novels there, giving the Jamaican landscape significance extending beyond its appearance in the inaugural 007 film.

For a collector building a sophisticated DR. NO archive, this photograph offers something genuinely different: Ursula Andress, her elegant silk outfit, Jamaican fishermen, working boats, Caribbean water and the tropical landscape surrounding the productiona visually distinctive glimpse into the Jamaican world where cinematic Bond history began.

Carefully restored and professionally printed from archival source material, this museum-quality photograph is a distinctive collectible for admirers of Ursula Andress, Honey Ryder, DR. NO, Jamaica, Ian Fleming and James Bond 007.
