Yutte Stensgaard appears as Mircalla Herritzen in LUST FOR A VAMPIRE (1971), captured in this rare black-and-white UK press photograph seated on the old stone steps outside the castle in her flowing white nightgown. The relaxed pose and historic setting create a striking publicity image of Stensgaard from one of Hammer’s most recognizable vampire productions of the early 1970s.
YUTTE STENSGAARD LUST FOR A VAMPIRE (1971) Castle Steps Rare Hammer Horror Photo
Directed by Jimmy Sangster, LUST FOR A VAMPIRE is the second film in Hammer’s Karnstein Trilogy, loosely inspired by Sheridan Le Fanu’s 1872 novella CARMILLA. It followed THE VAMPIRE LOVERS (1970) and was followed by TWINS OF EVIL (1971), with the vampire lineage of the Karnstein family providing the thematic connection among the three films.
Carefully restored and professionally printed from archival source material, this museum-quality photograph is a distinctive collectible for admirers of Yutte Stensgaard, LUST FOR A VAMPIRE, Hammer Horror, the Karnstein Trilogy, Gothic vampire cinema, and 1970s British horror.
Production of Lust for a Vampire began not long after the release of The Vampire Lovers. The film has a cult following, although some Hammer Horror fans have accused it of being overly camp. Its most noted scene shows Yutte Stensgaard drenched in blood and partially covered by blood-soaked rags, although the filmed scene is not as explicit as that shown in a promotional still.
Other notable actors in the film are Harvey Hall (who has a different role in each film of this series), David Healy and popular radio DJ Mike Raven as Count Karnstein, but his voice is dubbed by an un-credited Valentine Dyall.
