Roman Polanski as Trelkovsky and Shelley Winters as the Concierge are captured amid the working production crew of THE TENANT (1976) in this exceptional black-and-white behind-the-scenes photograph. Positioned together within the doorway above a tightly clustered group of technicians, Polanski and Winters are almost completely surrounded by the filmmaking apparatus and personnel immediately below them, creating a wonderfully revealing composition in which performance and production occupy the same frame. Contemporary image records confirm Polanski and Winters together in production photography from the film.
Directed by Roman Polanski, THE TENANT stars Polanski as Trelkovsky alongside Isabelle Adjani, Melvyn Douglas, Jo Van Fleet and Shelley Winters as the Concierge, with cinematography by Sven Nykvist. Production designer Pierre Guffroy created the film’s environments with art directors Claude Moesching and Albert Rajau; Polanski later explained that an extensive apartment-building set was constructed at the Épinay studios from the concierge’s lodge through the apartments, allowing the production unusually precise control over its oppressive architectural world.
Carefully restored from original studio-issued archival material and professionally lab-developed, this museum-quality photograph is presented uncropped, preserving the complete image area contained in the archival material. The naturally framed doorway, Polanski and Winters in character and dense foreground of working production personnel make this a particularly revealing image for THE TENANT, Roman Polanski, Shelley Winters, cinematography and behind-the-scenes filmmaking collectors.

The William Turner by Hahnemühle is one of the most popular papers used in the Giclee printing industry. This is a 310g natural white mould made natural line paper with 100% rag content making it highly archival. It has a slight coarse texture which gives photos and artwork an elegant look. These fine art paper prints (also known as Giclee) are ordered by galleries, individual artists and photographers. The papers and inks are not only archival but use some of the most accurate print technology for full color prints.

Acid-free and lignin-free, these are both face resistant and meet all conservation quality standards set by the Fine Art Trade Guild. Mats are digitally cut for ultimate precision. The window will be 1/8″ smaller than the print dimensions.
