BARBARA STEELE appears as Cynthia Hichcock in this striking color film photograph from THE HORRIBLE DR. HICHCOCK (1962), seen through the small oval opening of a wooden coffin as she reaches desperately toward the glass. The dark wood frame surrounds Steele’s frightened expression, wide eyes and outstretched hands, reducing the composition to the essential elements of confinement, fear and helplessness. The unusual perspective transforms the coffin itself into the dominant visual structure, creating one of the film’s most memorable Gothic horror images.
Directed by RICCARDO FREDA, THE HORRIBLE DR. HICHCOCK—originally released in Italy as L’ORRIBILE SEGRETO DEL DR. HICHCOCK—stars Steele as Cynthia Hichcock, the young wife drawn into the disturbing secrets of Dr. Bernard Hichcock, played by Robert Flemyng. The film’s atmosphere is built around Victorian decadence, death obsession and forbidden experimentation, with Cynthia’s experiences of terror and confinement forming a central part of its Gothic nightmare. Following her breakthrough in BLACK SUNDAY, the role further established Steele as one of Italian horror cinema’s defining performers.
Carefully restored from archival photographic materials and professionally lab-developed, this museum-quality photograph is presented uncropped, preserving the complete image area contained in the original archival source. The William Turner by Hahnemühle is one of the most popular papers used in the Giclee printing industry. This is a 310g natural white mould made natural line paper with 100% rag content making it highly archival. It has a slight coarse texture which gives photos and artwork an elegant look. These fine art paper prints (also known as Giclee) are ordered by galleries, individual artists and photographers. The papers and inks are not only archival but use some of the most accurate print technology for full color prints.

Acid-free and lignin-free, these are both face resistant and meet all conservation quality standards set by the Fine Art Trade Guild. Mats are digitally cut for ultimate precision. The window will be 1/8″ smaller than the print dimensions.
