Jenny Hanley as Sarah Framsen stands bloodied on the battlements of Dracula’s castle in this dramatic color image from Hammer Film Productions’ Scars of Dracula (1970). Wearing a pale pink period nightgown marked by scratches and blood across her chest, Hanley is captured with one hand raised and her attention fixed beyond the frame, preserving the immediate danger of the film’s climactic vampire-bat attack.

The wider composition gives this photograph particular value. Unlike the companion close-up that concentrates on Sarah’s injuries and expression, this image places her more completely within the stark castle battlements setting, surrounded by projecting spikes, stonework and the storm-darkened Gothic atmosphere of Dracula’s domain.

During the climax, Sarah returns to the castle while searching for Simon Carlson. Dracula confronts her on the battlements and uses his vampire bat familiar to tear away the crucifix protecting her, leaving Sarah vulnerable to the Count. Klove then arrives and turns against Dracula before being thrown from the castle, while Simon reaches the battlements for the final confrontation.

Christopher Lee stars as Count Dracula, with Dennis Waterman as Simon Carlson, Jenny Hanley as Sarah Framsen, Christopher Matthews as Paul Carlson, Patrick Troughton as Klove and Michael Gwynn as the priest. The film was directed by Roy Ward Baker from a screenplay by Anthony Hinds, with Hammer Film Productions producing one of the bloodiest installments in its celebrated Dracula series. Hammer itself describes the film as an unusually violent and blood-soaked entry in the saga.

The battlements provide the setting for Dracula’s spectacular destruction. Simon hurls an iron spike at the Count, but the wound misses his heart. Dracula pulls the spike free and raises it against Simon just as lightning strikes the metal, engulfing the vampire in flames and sending him over the castle wall.

Released in 1970, Scars of Dracula represents Hammer’s Dracula cycle moving decisively toward a more graphic early-1970s horror aesthetic. Its bat attacks, bloodshed and physical brutality are balanced by the elaborate period costumes and Gothic settings that remained central to Hammer’s visual identity.

This image is particularly effective because Sarah’s elegant pink nightgown and curled period hairstyle contrast sharply with the visible wounds and hostile battlements surrounding her. The result combines Hammer glamour with immediate physical danger, making it a particularly strong Jenny Hanley image from the film’s climactic sequence.

Carefully restored from archival source material and professionally lab-developed, this museum-quality photograph is presented uncropped, preserving the complete image area contained in the archival source material. Meticulous restoration recovers natural color balance, blood-red tonal detail, facial clarity, costume texture and photographic integrity while retaining the authentic character of the original color image.

For collectors of Hammer Horror, Christopher Lee’s Dracula films and Jenny Hanley photography, this photograph offers a particularly atmospheric view of Sarah Framsen during the film’s final confrontation. The combination of the castle battlements, vampire-bat attack aftermath and bloodied pink nightgown gives the image an unmistakable connection to one of Scars of Dracula’s most memorable sequences.
