PETER CUSHING and CHRISTOPHER LEE are captured at the Creature’s unforgettable awakening in THE CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN (1957), with Cushing’s Baron Victor Frankenstein confronting his newly animated creation as Lee stands before him completely wrapped in white bandages. The Creature’s towering, concealed figure dominates the laboratory beyond Frankenstein, creating extraordinary suspense moments before the wrappings are torn from his face and Hammer reveals its radically new Frankenstein Creature.
Directed by Terence Fisher for Hammer Film Productions, THE CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN stars Cushing as Baron Victor Frankenstein and Lee as the Creature alongside Hazel Court and Robert Urquhart. During this celebrated sequence, Frankenstein returns to his laboratory to discover that the Creature has come to life; Lee then tears away the facial bandages to reveal the grotesque makeup created by Phil Leakey. Hammer identifies the film as the milestone that launched its Gothic horror cycle, while the production also marked the first time Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee shared the screen, beginning one of horror cinema’s most celebrated partnerships.
Carefully restored from archival photographic materials and professionally lab-developed, this museum-quality photograph is presented uncropped, preserving the complete image area contained in the original studio-issued archival material. The fully bandaged Creature, Frankenstein’s startled confrontation and the richly detailed laboratory setting preserve one of THE CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN’s defining visual moments and make this an exceptional image for collectors of Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee and classic Hammer Horror.
