Peter Cushing’s The Revenge of Frankenstein (1958) is represented through this striking original Belgian theatrical design, dominated by a grotesquely disfigured face, grasping hand and prone female figure beneath the bold French title La Revanche de Frankenstein. The lurid Technicolor palette and macabre medical imagery create an unmistakably European interpretation of Hammer Horror’s early Gothic Frankenstein cycle.
The poster is immediately arresting because of the enormous distorted face occupying the center of the artwork. Rendered in fiery orange, yellow and black tones, the figure appears almost consumed by pain and transformation, while the enlarged hand reaching forward gives the composition an aggressive physical quality.
Below, the reclining woman introduces another layer of danger and melodrama. Her pale clothing stands sharply against the intense red background, while the surrounding laboratory and medical associations reinforce the film’s themes of experimentation, surgery and manufactured life.
The Belgian campaign gives the film a distinctly continental identity. The huge LA REVANCHE DE FRANKENSTEIN title is set in white lettering against a deep crimson field, while the English title appears in smaller form nearby. Combined with the French-language credits and vivid painted imagery, the design differs markedly from Hammer’s British and American advertising.
Released in 1958, The Revenge of Frankenstein was directed by Terence Fisher and continued directly from the events of The Curse of Frankenstein (1957). Peter Cushing returns as Baron Victor Frankenstein, now operating under the assumed identity of Dr. Victor Stein as he resumes the scientific experiments that nearly led to his destruction.
The film also stars Francis Matthews, Eunice Gayson and Michael Gwynn. Rather than simply repeating the first film’s monster formula, the sequel pushes Frankenstein deeper into questions of transplantation, identity and bodily reconstruction, further defining Cushing’s Baron as brilliant, calculating and morally uncompromising.
The film occupies an important place in Hammer history. Coming only a year after The Curse of Frankenstein, it helped prove that the studio’s revolutionary approach to Gothic horror could sustain an ongoing series and further established Peter Cushing and Terence Fisher as two of the central creative figures in Hammer’s rise to international prominence.
The artwork reflects that transition perfectly. Its mixture of distorted anatomy, medical menace, dramatic color and sensational typography captures the more explicit visual language that distinguished Hammer from earlier Gothic filmmaking and helped reshape horror cinema during the late 1950s.
KissMeMonster’s 15x22 fine art poster is professionally reproduced on archival Moab Lasal Photo Matte paper, a substantial 21-mil, 310gsm professional-grade stock selected for high-quality photographic and fine art presentation. The matte surface preserves the artwork’s fiery orange tones, deep crimson backgrounds, black shadow detail and vintage Belgian typography while giving the finished poster a substantial gallery-quality appearance.
For collectors of Peter Cushing, The Revenge of Frankenstein and Hammer Films, this is an exceptionally dramatic piece of European Hammer Horror poster art—a striking Belgian theatrical design in which the grotesque face, grasping hand, prone woman, vivid Technicolor palette and La Revanche de Frankenstein title capture the dark medical obsession at the heart of Hammer’s Frankenstein mythology, making it especially desirable for collectors of Terence Fisher, classic monster cinema, vintage Belgian film posters and British Gothic horror.
